After a stellar performance in the Valorant Champions final, Evil Geniuses are crowned world champions for the first time and take revenge on semi-final defeat Paper Rex. In addition, the team makes eSports history in the final.

The most important tournament of the year ended with a perfect comeback! EG beat the competition from South East Asia 3:1 in the grand final of the Valorant Champions and celebrated a world title in the tactical shooter created by Riot Games for the first time. Still at the Masters in Tokyo, the team led by Christine “potter” Chi narrowly missed out on victory, finishing second behind FNATIC.

Having no problems in the final

Even in the group stage, both teams let their individual class shine through. Both Paper Rex (Group A) and Evil Geniuses (Group B) reached the knock-out stage of this year’s World Championship undefeated and, as expected, met in the Upper Bracket Final. Interestingly, it was the Singaporean team that put the eventual world champions in their place and became the first organisation of the tournament to reach the finals.

EG, on the other hand, was forced to make his way through the lower bracket. Here the roster first had to deal with Istanbul Champion LOUD, who would have liked to defend their World Title in Los Angeles. But just like before against Paper Rex, the Brazilians had to admit defeat to the North Americans. So everything was set for THE revenge of the tournament.

EG strikes back!

In the final match of the Valorant Champions, Evil Geniuses first secured the first card. However, Paper Rex knew their own strengths and evened the score on Ascent in front of a sold-out crowd. On map three, Bind, it seemed as if the South-East Asians had shot all their powder. With just five rounds won, the EG team was defeated 5:13. On Lotus, on the other hand, the result was much closer, but in the end it was the US eSports organisation that closed the bag with a final score of 13:10.

As the winner, Evil Geniuses will take the biggest slice of the 2.250000 prize money pie, namely one million US dollars. Opponent Paper Rex can still be happy about a sum of 400,000 dollars.

A piece of eSports history

As if EG’s victory in front of their home crowd wasn’t enough, the US American’s title win marks a first in the world of eSports. Christine “potter” Chi is currently head coach at Evil Geniuses and led the team to success in Los Angeles. This makes her the first woman to win a world title outside of a dedicated gaming field. She herself was active as a Counter-Strike player in the past and was signed with SK Ladies and CLG Red, among others.
