In League of Legends a lot of things will change soon. We tell you what Riot plans for the Preseason 2024
Riot Games is apparently already planning the next season in League of Legends. In 2024, a lot is supposed to change in the MOBA. First of all, there will no longer be a preseason and the Mythic Items will probably have to go. Instead, an additional split is planned for next year.
The end of the preseason
Riot has announced that the current Ranked season that players are currently in will be extended until January 3, 2024. Preseason will have to make way for this.
In past years, the preseason usually started in November and was used by Riot to make major changes to the game without affecting ranked games.
Now players can try out the developers’ new ideas on the public test server and still try to advance in the extended ranked season.
Three Ranked Splits
Already last year, Riot had split the Ranked season into two parts, and now it is to become even three. Riot explained in a developer interview that the first split will start on January 9, 2024, the second split in May and the third in September.
According to League of Legends game director Pu Liu, the new system should bring more excitement to the game and lead to fewer interruptions between splits:
This should hopefully lead to more effective matches and faster advancement for each split, and it also means you’ll have the opportunity to earn three ranked SKINS per year
The new three-part structure also gives developers three ways to make big changes to gameplay without interrupting players as they rank.
The Ranked Season won’t be the only thing that will change in 2024, though. Mythic Items are also going to get the chop.
No more Mythic Items
First in 2021, Riot had introduced mythic items in LoL to simplify the building process. But there was always criticism of the items because they would make some champions too powerful and force players to build them.
The developers had tried since the beginning of the year to balance the items and make the whole thing as fair as possible, but without success. Therefore, the decision has now been made to take the mythic system completely out of the game.
Some popular items like “Strength of Trinity” and “Blade of Infinity” will remain. More detailed info will probably be available on August 30.
