The beta for Counter-Strike 2 is running at full speed, but in the community people rise to the barricades.
Since September, access to the beta of Counter-Strike 2 is available for many fans of the shooter. With the larger number of players, however, the criticism of developer Valve is also increasing. Especially the servers are in focus.
No escape from the 64-tick hell?
The big announcement about Counter-Strike 2 read like the wish list of every Counter-Strike player at that time. Especially the ending for the 64-tick standard was the absolute highlight for many fans. Now it apparently turns out that the new subtick standard does not meet the requirements of the players.
On Reddit and other community platforms, clips and stories about strange hitboxes, shots hitting even behind solid walls, and other problems are piling up. Now that the well-known matchmaking service FACEIT has also launched CS2 servers, a (Reddit post is causing a furor). In it, the player reveals that Valve servers continue to use 64-tick, while FACEIT offers 128-tick.

For many fans, the scapegoat is accordingly quickly found for the complaints about the behavior of the successor compared to CS:GO. But is that really the case?
Is the tick rate for CS2 relevant at all?
As a layman, it’s difficult to tell how much of the reported problems in Counter-Strike 2 are actually related to the tick rate or not. While in CS:GO almost everything was tied to it and there was a significant improvement from 64-tick to 128-tick accordingly, it’s still unclear what exactly is affected by it in CS2, as insider “Gabe Follower” shares on Twitter:
ok, so I went down the rabbit hole and there is a big misunderstanding about how the new tickrate system works (from my pov).
a lot of users think that faceit utilizes 128 tick and official matchmaking uses something new and “weird” that the devs call sub-tick. THIS IS NOT THE… pic.twitter.com/jyKlIycUN1

It is not yet possible to say whether 128-tick will be an improvement for the new Subtick standard.
Wait, report bugs and drink tea
The excitement and frustration of the community is of course understandable to a degree. After all, the Subtick standard was one of Valve’s main promises for Counter-Strike 2 as an improvement over 64-tick servers. Dyet it’s important to keep in mind that the currently playable Counter-Strike 2 is still a beta.
While the announced summer release is getting closer and closer, a lot can still change in a short period of time. So our advice to fans is to stay calm, report any bugs that appear to the developers and wait and see.
To our new CS2 players, a reminder-please send CS2 bug reports to:

After all the hype around Counter-Strike 2 and the high expectations, Valve will most likely respond to the feedback and work on the successor until release to bring a worthy Counter-Strike 2 to the market.
