The map of Assassin’s Creed Mirage: size in comparison, important places and the surrounding area of Baghdad

The next Assassin’s Creed is said to return to the roots of the series in many ways. This is probably also the case with the map size.

Ubisoft has already made it clear to us on several occasions that Assassin’s Creed Mirage is to say goodbye to many innovations of its direct predecessors and return to the roots of the series.

This also applies to the world, in which we once again only explore one city and its surrounding countryside instead of entire stretches of land. The size of the map in AC Mirage can be estimated quite well in the meantime.

Comparison to Unity and Revelations

The map of AC Mirage will be about as big as Paris in Unity and Constantinople in Revelations. This concrete comparison was drawn by the developers (during a press event.

This means that the map in Mirage will be significantly smaller than that of Odyssey or Valhalla. But there is still a lot to explore. Because both comparison maps were anything but small:

In Assassin’s Creed Mirage, we will primarily roam Baghdad. The city is divided into a total of four districts, which clearly stand out from each other:

  • Round city: center of Baghdad
  • Karkh: market district
  • Abbasiyah: Cultural center
  • Harbiyah: Industrial and workers’ district

Further, in AC Mirage we can also explore parts of the surrounding countryside. There are still two smaller settlements that we can visit. We may also travel to Alamut, an Assassin castle. This has already been seen in screenshots and is still being built in the time of Mirage.

This is how the map is built in AC Mirage

A first video shared by Access The Animus on X (formerly Twitter) already shows how the map will look like in AC Mirage:

What the map in AC Mirage looks like away from the clips shown and what places we can explore in the Baghdad environs can also be deduced from the included Launch Edition map (exclusive on Amazon).

The following locations are highlighted on the map:

  • Madīnat as-Salām (Baghdad city center)
  • Karkh, Abbasiyah and Harbiyah (districts of Baghdad)
  • Al-Anbar (this is where Basim starts as a street thief)
  • Dur-Kurigalzu (northwest of Baghdad)
  • Jariariyah (southwest of Baghdad)
  • Alamut (Fortress of the Assassins)

Baghdad, with its four districts, is clearly the core of Mirage’s game world. Nevertheless, the map shows that the surrounding areas will also keep us busy. It’s clear that the places outside the city will turn out to be significantly smaller than the city.

Of course, the enclosed map is no guarantee that the highlighted locations will actually play a major role in the game. Nevertheless, it is likely that they are the most important locations in Baghdad and the surrounding area in AC Mirage.

Small, but well filled?

The smaller map of AC Mirage is of course a conscious decision by the developers. They want to bring back the classic Assassin’s Creed feel with the gameplay changes and the focus on one city.

Of course, there’s also the hope that there will be plenty of exciting places, tasks and stories to discover in Baghdad aside from the main quest. At least one mission board can already be seen in the gameplay trailer:

However, we should definitely be prepared for a shorter playtime overall: The developers assume that Mirage will only keep us busy for about 15-20 hours, which is also reflected in the lower price of 50 euros RRP.

What do you think about the fact that the AC Mirage map will be significantly smaller than that of its predecessors? Do you think that would be a good approach for other games in the series? Or do you prefer to have as much to explore as possible, and not just run around in a city? Feel free to write your opinion in the comments!
