Sony shows off its new ECM-S1 microphone in a trailer. This is a small, wireless microphone that can do everything according to the video. Can this be true?
Technical data around the ECM-S1
On Geizhals.de you can buy the microphone for around 449 Euros. The video suggests that the target group should be very broad. It can be used for streamers, musicians, filmmakers and even for work meetings.
To cover this range, there are three different recording modes. Mode one is front facing, mode two is to record the whole room, and mode three is even stereo.
For noise, it has a noise filter which automatically removes wind noise. In addition to this, there is an integrated pop screen.
The battery lasts for 13 hours according to Sony. If you’re worried about range, Sony specifies 150 meters in clear view here.
These alternatives are available
The RØDE Wireless GO II comes with fewer setting options, but is at least as compact as the ECM-S1 and costs just over 200 euros in comparison.
Other than that, there’s the AnkerWork M650 for around 270 euros. This microphone is even smaller, can be plugged in and is primarily aimed at voice recordings.
Last but not least, there is also the DJI Mic 2-Person for about 330 euros. The manufacturer is known for its drones, but also produces small and compact recording devices like microphones. The battery life here is even 15 hours.
