Insider information about Call of Duty 2024 has been trickling through the internet for months. Now the leaks are intensifying
Months before the release of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, the rumors about its successor began!
The 2024 CoD is once again being developed by Treyarch, and according to initial leaks, we are unsurprisingly talking about another Black Ops, albeit with a new scenario: It is supposedly set in the era of the Second Gulf War in the early 1990s (also known as the First Iraq War or Operation Desert Storm).
A new (Insider report from WindowsCentral) now confirms and expands on this initial information:
- The new Black Ops doesn’t even have a name internally yet, the team is juggling several code names internally.
- However, the scenario is clear: The Second Gulf War, the armed conflict between Iraq and the allied nations of the USA, Great Britain and many other countries. The war broke out in 1990 when Iraqi forces under Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait.
- As usual for Black Ops, the campaign does not mainly focus on the development of the front, but instead revolves around CIA machinations and covert operations.
- In terms of weaponry, the new Black Ops logically moves away from many of the high-tech gadgets of the recent Modern Warfare games.
Another new tidbit of info comes from CharlieIntel, who confirm via X (formerly Twitter) that the new Call of Duty will be the first game to take four years to develop:

This is in stark contrast to the current, highly controversial Modern Warfare 3, which was supposedly planned as DLC and was only developed for a year and a half.
The longer development time for Black Ops 6 is the result of the irregularity of the last few years: Treyarch would actually have been due to release a new Call of Duty in 2023, after Infinite Ward launched Modern Warfare 2 in 2022 and Sledgehammer Games launched CoD Vanguard in 2021.
With Modern Warfare 3, however, Sledgehammer has returned earlier than usual, giving Treyarch an extra year to develop the next Black Ops for 2024
This should give campaign fans in particular hope: Black Ops Cold War’s 2020 campaign was one of the best CoD campaigns in a long time – and four years of development at least seems like a strong foundation to avoid a debacle like Modern Warfare 3 in the future.
Unsurprisingly, the new Black Ops is set to be released in the fall of 2024
