Microsoft is already working on the next Xbox console – and it could be released sooner than expected

In the course of the legal dispute surrounding the planned Activision takeover by Microsoft, a number of documents have emerged that provide an insight into the company’s console plans.

In addition to this refresh, known as “Codename Brooklin”, the leak also discussed the direct successor to the Xbox Series X, which was not due to see the light of day until 2028. However, the entire release plans have probably been postponed due to the details published in advance

Instead of 2028, the next Xbox console is to be released in 2026, much earlier than a possible PlayStation 6.

At least that’s what YouTuber RedGamingTech claims, citing internal and unspecified sources

Microsoft wants to set the first scent mark of the next console generation with this advance. After all, good experience was gained with the Xbox 360, which was also released around a year before its direct competitor in the form of the PlayStation 3.

Although Microsoft is taking the risk that the “Xbox Next” will contain weaker hardware than the upcoming PS6, the console could simply be offered at a lower price than the competition instead.

It also keeps the door open for a later revision of the Xbox – an approach that Sony has successfully implemented with the Pro version of the PlayStation 4 and a PS5 Pro, which is considered likely.

According to the YouTube leak, the weaker hardware would primarily manifest itself in the chip: Since no Zen 6 chips from AMD are expected in 2026, the new Xbox console is likely to rely on Zen 5 instead.

The original leak still assumed the next but one AMD generation as the processor, but at least in the PC sector, Ryzen 8000 will definitely not have to hide from the competition!

Now we need your opinion: What would Microsoft have to do to convince you to switch from Playstation to Xbox? Is a cheaper and earlier release of a new Xbox the right way to catch up with Sony? Or are you going to get both (or neither) consoles anyway? Let us know in the comments
