Portal: Revolution has been released as a free mod for Portal 2 and fills an important story gap. The user reviews are enthusiastic

Portal: Revolution was released on January 6, 2024. What may initially sound like an official sequel from Valve is actually an ambitious fan mod for Portal 2, still the best-rated game on Steam So if you own the main game, you can start the puzzle fun right away:

(Portal: Revolution on Steam )

The purpose of Portal: Revolution is to  fill the story gap between Portal 1 and 2 that Valve never resolved The Aperture Science research facility is already in a dilapidated state after the supposed demise of GLaDOS in the first part

Scope of a full-price game

What’s inside? Portal: Revolution has over 40 new test chambers to offer and should keep you five to seven hours occupied. To solve the puzzles, you will have to make use of brand new environmental elements, such as the Pneumatic Diversity Vent

A new variant of the laser diversion cube also awaits you. You even have to solve 15 of the 40 puzzles using only the blue portal gun. As you can see, there should be plenty of variety in your daily puzzle routine

How difficult is Portal: Revolution? &nbspAccording to the creators behind the mod, Portal: Revolution starts where Portal 2 ends in terms of difficulty. However, so as not to put anyone off, all new mechanics and advanced maneuvers are explained during the course of the game. Particularly precise movement acrobatics should never be required to solve the puzzles

The users are enthusiastic

Obviously, Portal: Revolution is more than successful. At the time of writing, 94 percent of the (over 2,000 user reviews) are positive and the game’s gameplay and atmosphere are both great. Both the gameplay and the atmosphere are well received almost across the board, and there are no complaints about bugs either.

There is also a lot of praise for the story and staging. Many users were particularly impressed by the English dubbing (there are German subtitles).

For the Steam Deck owners among you, some good news: According to (some user reviews) Portal: Revolution also seems to run stably on Valve’s handheld.

What is being criticized? For balanced reporting, it is of course appropriate to let the negative voices have their say. Although we had to scroll for a long time, we were able to find one point that is (frequently criticized)  Many puzzles are said to be too undemanding But this obviously depends a lot on how experienced you are with Portal.

Have you already played Portal: Revolution and if so, how do you like the fan mod? Are you as impressed by the atmosphere and production as many Steam users or are you more on the side of the critics? Which points bothered you? Are the puzzles really that easy? We’re looking forward to your opinion, so please let us know in the comments!
