Cult actor Lawrence Fishburn joins the cast of the Netflix series. His role will be well known to gaming fans

Some fans have put an end to the Witcher series on Netflix with the departure of Henry Cavill as Geralt of Riva. Although Liam Hemsworth is no stranger to the role, some viewers’ anticipation has not increased noticeably as a result.

The Thor actor’s little brother will not be the only star in season 4: Lawrence Fishburne will join the Witcher as Regis.

Who is Regis?

Book and game fans of The Witcher will probably take notice of the name, as the character has already made one or two appearances there. While he plays quite a prominent role in the books, his first and only digital appearance is in the DLC Blood and Wine of The Witcher 3. He is only mentioned by name in the first part.

Regis is a world-renowned healer and bather (i.e. a doctor without a doctorate who can also perform minor surgical procedures) who befriends Geralt. In the next paragraph, we reveal a little more about his character – if you don’t want to be spoiled for the series, skip this part.

Fishburne is looking forward to exploring the wondrous world of The Witcher, he told Netflix. The actor is best known for his role as Morpheus in the Matrix films, but has also made a name for himself in other major productions over the years. Whether in the John Wick films, Mission Impossible 3, the Hannibal series or the superhero flicks Batman v Superman and Antman and the Wasp

Mixed reactions

In the comments under the announcement on X (formerly Twitter), opinions are divided. While some are looking forward to Fishburne’s performance, others are still not satisfied due to the departure of Henry Cavill.

For Theill then there’s the distinct difference between the exteriors. Not how I pictured Regis while reading the books. But I’m sure Laurence can do a good job. The games also go for a completely different look, as you can see in the picture at the top.

The fourth season of The Witcher has yet to be released, and due to the big strike in Hollywood last year, it could be a while yet. So it may not be until 2025, but the exact date is not known

Does this make the fourth season of Witcher more interesting for you or do you not give the series a chance without Henry Cavill? Is Lawrence Fishburne the perfect cast for you or would you have had a more suitable actor in mind? Let us know in the comments below:
