Out of Action caused a sensation among shooter experts. Now the developer wants to secure funding for the project via Kickstarter

Every now and then, solo developers manage to get impressive projects off the ground all by themselves. The multiplayer and single-player shooter Out of Action, which aims to set itself apart from modern shooters, is also the brainchild of just one person. Now the game is to be financed via Kickstarter.

What is Out of Action?

The shooter, which is visually reminiscent of cyberpunk anime such as Ghost in the Shell, focuses primarily on fast gameplay and brutal combat: you sprint across the map, slide around corners, break through glass windows and activate bullet time if you wish. You can see how this works in the new trailer:

Currently, a prototype of the shooter can be tried out for free on Steam, but it only shows a small section of the finished game: Out of Action is scheduled for release sometime in 2024 and will feature various multiplayer modes as well as a single-player mode.

For developer Ranulf Busby, the shooter is a passion project, the realization of which he now wants to finance via Kickstarter

Here he also reveals more about the features that the game will offer at release:

  • Weapons: There will be over 20 different weapons that can be customized with modifications. These include classics such as pistols, shotguns, assault rifles and rocket launchers, as well as a futuristic sword that can be used to fend off bullets.
  • Skills: We can make our play style even stronger with a skill tree. We unlock new skills here through challenges and our performance in battle.
  • Shells: Five different types of armor, called shells, each give us special characteristics. By combining shells, abilities and weapons, we can create our very own play style.
  • Cosmetic items: There will be items that only change our appearance. However, these cannot be bought with money, but are unlocked by playing the shooter in a similar way to skills. They should also always match the aesthetics of Out of Action.
  • Multiplayer-Bullet-Time: Successful actions charge our core and can then activate a bullet-time mechanic in multiplayer, which gives us a temporary advantage. However, the ability only affects opponents in the immediate vicinity, while combat continues as normal in other parts of the map.
