Rise of Hydra, the new game from Uncharted creator Amy Hennig, amazes thanks to Unreal Engine 5
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra a brand new action-adventure game from Uncharted creator Amy Hennig and her studio Skydance New Media was unveiled at GDC State of Unreal 2024.
And although there was no real gameplay to see yet, the first cutscene shown is extremely impressive and is causing a big response on social media But first see for yourself:
What’s so amazing about it?
For many users, the scenes in the trailer look like real footage or elaborately rendered scenes at first glance. The facial animations in particular look extremely lifelike.
But there is no CI trickery in the game: The material is actual in-game graphics and calculated in real time based on the latest version of Unreal Engine 5. Hennig himself says:
People may not believe it, but this isn’t a customized tech demo for the show. This is our game. What you see here is running in real time in UE5. This is not just smoke and mirrors.

What kind of game will Rise of Hydra be?
The developers describe their game as Marvel action adventure set in World War II with a story focus There is an ensemble of playable heroes for whom real actors have been cast
Confirmed are a WW2 version of Black Panther (grandfather of T’Challa), Captain America (Steve Rogers) and his combat unit the Howling Commandos as well as Howard Stark. The action takes place in France and the resistance there against the Nazis.
Further details about the game are not yet available, the release is planned for 2025. It remains unclear whether it is a pure single-player game or whether multiplayer and service elements are planned.
Who is the woman behind the project?
Amy Hennig moved from EA to Skydance Media in 2019 and is now working on a Star Wars game with Lucasfilm Games in addition to Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra.
Hennig previously worked as head writer and director for famous series such as Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver and is considered the creative mind behind the Uncharted series.
In 2014, she moved to Visceral Games to make a new Star Wars open world, but EA buried the project three years later. The 59-year-old is considered a luminary in the games industry when it comes to story games and writing.
