Hollow Knight: Silksong is back in action after a long time, but fans think the news is an April Fool’s joke.

The recent buzz surrounding Hollow Knight: Silksong and its surprise appearance on the Xbox Store on April 1 has fans’ hearts racing – and frowning skeptically at the same time.

More than five years after the announcement of the eagerly awaited sequel to Hollow Knight the recent Xbox Store entry offers a glimmer of hope, but one that is overshadowed by the ironic choice of date.

After all, April 1 is traditionally associated with hoaxes and pranks, so many fans are suspicious – even though there’s no official indication of a hoax.

New sign of life makes many fans skeptical

The fact that there is now an official page on the Xbox Store alongside the PSN Store and Nintendo eShop – complete with age rating from the American Enternainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) – is causing speculation to run rampant.

There are numerous enthusiastic but also skeptical comments on social networks:

Today I will not be fooled by SilkSong release dates. I will not be fooled by SilkSong announcements of any kind. My mind is clear and my heart is open, you can’t destroy me, I’ve prepared my soul for today […]

Silksong getting a new store page on April 1 is a personal attack and I will not stand for this crap.

Although many fans have their doubts, Microsoft, in the person of Content Planning Manager Nick Zuclich, has now confirmedthat both the product page and the age rating are genuine.

opinion from the editorial team

When I’m asked for an expert opinion, I know it has to be about Hollow Knight – or some other Metroidvania that nobody else here cares about. And I’m like many fans out there: I no longer have any hope in my heart, which has been scarred by many disappointments, and take note of the game’s new sign of life with as little emotion as possible

That’s not Team Cherry’s fault: the development team has been doing its best to keep the community silent for years. What initially had the desired effect – the growth of hype – has turned into the opposite over the years, and not just for me. At some point, I was annoyed by the lack of communication, by the stalling

When Silksong is released, I have a party with all my bugs in the apartment – but only then. So how do I rate the new sign of life in the form of the Xbox store entry? The same way I rate the numerous works in the Steam database: As We’re working on it – no more, no less. Damn, excuse me. I have to quickly block out the hope, uff … it’s … so strong …

Of course, the ESRB rating doesn’t necessarily mean the game is close to release, as the ratings are not based on playing the game, but on information provided by the developers. Nevertheless, this first big news since the postponement in early 2023 signals that Silksong may finally be nearing release.
