CS2 has a cheating problem anyway, but now anyone could activate wallhacks via the console

The Counter-Strike community is buzzing – again. After the shooter Counter-Strike 2 struggled with massive problems such as crashes, poor optimization and security vulnerabilities when it was released in summer 2023.

Free wallhacks for everyone

What happened? A newly discovered exploit in Counter-Strike 2 has allowed players to activate wallhacks and other cheats with a simple console command.

These console commands are actually meant for experimenting in training modes, but the recently discovered vulnerability made it possible to abuse these cheats in ranked matches to gain an unfair advantage.

The result was a absolute chaos in ranked premier games as well as the highly competitive FaceIt lobbies, which require their own anti-cheat client in addition to the Valve Anti Cheat. But since the exploit

The severity of the exploit led to a quick response from Valve, who released a patch within 24 hours of discovering the exploit to render the unfair console command unusable.

It is not yet clear whether the players who used these commands will now face consequences, but it is highly likely that they will. It has been reported that the cheats were not automatically recognized by the system in the regular Premier rankings, but Valve will have to investigate the potential reports manually

The reason: The so-called Overwatch system, with which users could check the replays of other players for suspicious behavior, was removed from CS:GO and thus also CS2 about a year ago. This system is still in place on FaceIt, so the cheaters should be caught soon – the admins are already working on the investigation and have promised prompt bans
