Assassin’s Creed Mirage is not only a worthy return to the roots of the series, it’s also currently free to play. And it’s now more worthwhile than ever

Assassin’s Creed Mirage will probably go down in history as the little sibling of the great Assassin’s Creeds. It’s shorter, more compact, was originally planned as DLC and actually builds a bridge to the end of 2024, when the next really big part of the series will be released with Codename Red.

But Mirage is also a great return to the series’ roots: You once again play a real assassin – Basim – who assassinates conspirators in early medieval Baghdad, sprints across rooftops and relies above all on the hidden blade. In the GlobalESportNews test, Assassin’s Creed Mirage therefore received a pretty good rating

From April 16 to April 30, 2024 you can now try out the game for free to see for yourself! Ubisoft announces the free promotion via X (formerly Twitter), you need a free account at Ubisoft Connect (formerly Uplay) to play.

Why is Assassin’s Creed Mirage worth it?

Since its release in fall 2023, Assassin’s Creed Mirage has been significantly improved by several patches. Although there is no new content, there is a much smoother parkour system than at launch, as well as a New Game+ mode, a snazzy Bayek costume and other bug fixes.

The fixes to the parkour in particular make dashing across the rooftops of Baghdad much, much more fun. If you want to experience Assassin’s Creed like you used to, there’s currently no better opportunity to do so

However, although the free trial includes the full version of the game, you can only play for a total of two hours before you have to pull out your wallet. Two hours is just enough time to get through the game’s linear prologue and browse around the real open world. So if you want to make the most of the two hours, then you’d better get to grips with the tutorial, because Baghdad’s open world is the real star of the show.

We firmly expect the big reveal of Codename Red, the next big Assassin’s Creed, to take place at the latest at the Summer Game Fest in June 2024 . We already know that the game is set in Japan and that you’ll have two playable main characters, just like in Odyssey – but above all, we’re of course very curious to see how this Assassin’s Creed of the future will look compared to the now rather old Valhallas and Odysseys of this world. We’ll keep you up to date!
