After the announcement that Star Wars Outlaws will have a Season Pass, a huge controversy has arisen around crime lord Jabba. Now Ubisoft is speaking out

The announcement that a modern AAA title will come with a Season Pass should come as no surprise to anyone. In the case of Star Wars Outlaws the debate is sparked less by its existence than by its content.

Because many players fear that they will be deprived of a central mission about the nasty crime lord Jabba through the Season Pass. You know, the leader of the Hutt Syndicate, or as Han Solo put it: A wonderful human being. In view of the outrage that has been bubbling up on the net Ubisoft has now felt compelled to make a statement

What happened?

Last week, Ubisoft unveiled the different editions of Star Wars Outlaws alongside a new story trailer. When looking at the contents of these editions, resourceful users quickly discovered that the Gold and Ultimate Editions both come with an additional mission that is not available in the base game: Jabba’s move

The description text for the mission states: Just as Kay is putting together a crew for the Canto Bight raid, she receives an order from Jabba the Hutt himself. As it turns out, ND-5 has owed Jabba for years, and now he’s come to collect the debt.

As a result, many players wondered to what extent they would be able to interact with Jabba in the game without the Season Pass. The mighty crime lord should certainly not be missing in a game about the underworld of the Star Wars universe. Especially since Ubisoft has already promised in the past that you can work for or against Jabba in Outlaws.

What does Ubisoft say?

After criticism on the net, Ubisoft has now reacted. A Ubisoft spokesperson told the US website IGN US: The mission Jabba’s Move is an optional, additional mission with the Hutt Cartel along Kay and Nix’s journey through the Outer Rim. This mission will be available ffor those who purchase the Season Pass or an edition of the game that includes the Season Pass.

Much more important for fans, however, is probably the following statement from the spokesperson:

Jabba the Hutt and the Hutt Cartel are one of the main Syndicates in Star Wars Outlaws and will be part of the experience for all who purchase the game, regardless of edition.

So nobody has to do without Jabba completely. However, this cannot completely calm the waves within the community. Many fans feel cheated by the fact that content from a full-price single-player title would be held behind an additional paywall

Since this paywall is not exactly small: the base game costs 70 euros; the Gold Edition including Jabba’s move comes in at 110 euros, the Ultimate Edition even at 130 euros. This offends some fans.

And Ubisoft is also being criticized in other ways After the racing game The Crew was cut off, many gamers are once again wondering how secure their digital property is. We have linked a corresponding column above

What do you think of Ubisoft’s Season Pass policy? Do you think the extra mission for pre-orders is justified or do you think this measure is unfair? Do you perhaps not even care about such extras? Let us know in the comments below:
