At last we know when the story DLC Shattered Space will be released. But modding fans can also look forward to the most important new feature since release

For all those who thought Bethesda would take a creative break after the release of Starfield Todd Howard himself has now made two surprising announcements.

In a freshly published interview with colleagues from the YouTube channel Kinda Funny Games, the well-known developer not only revealed that the first major story expansion for the sci-fi epic has an approximate release date, but also that modding fans finally have a reason to cheer.

First DLC and Creation Kit on the way

First up is the expansion Shattered Space, which according to Howard is already planned for this fall and will be available for free to Deluxe Edition owners. Although only a few details have been leaked so far, there is already a lot of speculation about possible content

Many fans suspect that Shattered Space could give a deeper insight into the secrets of the mysterious House of Va’ruun – a human splinter group about which little is known so far. So it’s possible that you’ll be visiting the previously hidden home planet of Va’ruun’kai and its capital Dazra this fall.

For most avid Starfield players, however, the second announcement should be at least as exciting: The long-awaited creation kit for mods is also on its way!

Although the exact release date has not yet been set, Howard confirms that the powerful tool has already been made available to selected modders. The Bethesda boss also promises that more information will follow “very soon.”

Currently there are already some helpful mods for Starfield, but really ambitious projects like Fallout: London for Fallout 4 or Enderal for Skyrim will only be possible with the help of the modding tools.

In addition to these two big news items, there were also a few appetizers for hungry fans: A smaller update with improvements for ship building is to be announced in the next few days. Bethesda is also working on a major patch that will bring detailed city maps to the game, among other things. Until then, the best thing you can do is use our interactive map linked above
