After the debacle surrounding the PSN account requirement for Helldivers 2, many fans are wondering whether Ghost of Tsushima will suffer the same fate. Now the developers have spoken out
If there was one topic that really got the gaming community going this weekend, it was the discussion about the upcoming PlayStation account requirement for owners of the PC version of Helldivers 2.
Although Sony has since backed down from its plans under enormous pressure from players, many owners of titles from the Japanese company are now wondering whether the account link will become unavoidable for other titles in the future. The focus is particularly on: Ghost of Tsushima.
The PC version of the samurai adventure is due to be released in just ten days. Given the popularity of the open-world smash hit, many fans and pre-orders are now asking whether a PlayStation Network account is required to play the Steam version.
The development team now has a clear answer to this question.
There is no obligation – at least offline
As the Canadian website Wccftech reported, studio Sucker Punch recently responded to concerned fan inquiries on Twitter/X.
The statement says, among other things, that a PSN account is not required to play the single-player game.
A Steam account is therefore completely sufficient to enjoy the campaign.
Cancelled my pre-order since PlayStation wants to force me to link my Steam account to my PlayStation account. Unless PlayStation abrogates this policy I won’t be purchasing any PlayStation title

However, if you want to play online in co-op or use the PlayStation overlay, you will need to create a PlayStation user account or link your existing account.
However, most players are likely to have added Ghost of Tsushima to their virtual shopping cart anyway for the single player and its epic revenge story about the fallen samurai Jin Sakai. They should therefore be satisfied with Sucker Punch’s answer
What strategy Sony will pursue in the long term with its PlayStation titles on the PC remains to be seen. Because although the company backed away from the planned PSN account policy yesterday in the specific case of Helldivers 2, the FAQ guidelines regarding PlayStation titles on the PC were changed at the weekend.
Instead A PSN login is optional
it now says Some PlayStation titles may require a PSN login.
So the last word on this matter does not seem to have been spoken for Sony yet. However, it is to be hoped that these plans will be better communicated in the future.
