The official pen & paper is being expanded and fans can finally immerse themselves in the era of Cyberpunk 2077 and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
Cyberpunk fans had to be strong for a long time: As fun as the pen&paper Cyberpunk Red is – until now it was not so easy to experience Night City as we know it from Cyberpunk 2077 in it. The setting is set decades earlier. But the wait will soon be over
As publisher R. Talsorian Games has now announced, a ne new expansion based on the Netflix series Cyberpunk: Edgerunnersis going to press. And it’s set in the year 2076, which is almost exactly the same as V’s era

What is the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Mission Kit?
The expansion offers rulebooks, ready-made characters, setting descriptions and a new missionthat officially continues the story of the animated series. Cyberpunk creator Mike Pondsmith, R. Talsorian Games and CD Projekt Red have collaborated on the content. Soon available in the kit are:
- Manual with lore for the Edgerunners setting
- Rulebook with all the nice things that exist in the 2070s: smart weapons, quickhacks and so on
- Mission “The Jacket”
- Seven pre-made Edgerunners characters (explicitly not characters from the series)
- New official lore for the series characters Lucy, Rebecca, David and Co.
- New dice, maps, tokens
According to R. Talsorian Games, the kit costs 35 US dollars, which is probably around 35 euros. You will soon be able to order it from R. Talsorian Games yourself or via DriveThruRPG, the release is planned for mid to late June 2024 (physical and digital version). Digital modules for Roll20 are also set to follow soon
On Reddit, one of the designers answered many fan questions, such as whether you can play with the Edgerunners kit alone without previous rulebooks (yes, you can). And that this module is far from being all that will be released for the 2070s. So if you’re looking for more information, you should take a look there:

What our expert says about the announcement
Cyberpunk Red has really grown on me since its release in 2020 and, alongside Dungeons & Dragons, is my go-to role-playing game, especially as a game master. This is especially due to the detailed world, the colorful characters and of course the neon glow of Night City. I’m really glad that Cyberpunk 2077 and the Edgerunners anime have introduced so many new people to the world and made them love it.
But until now, it’s always been a bit difficult to explain the era of the 2040s, in which Cyberpunk Red is set, to fans of the 2070s. There are no quickhacks, no Mantis blades and Sandevistan is still in its infancy. So I’m all the happier that, as a game master, I can now pick up these fans in a sensible way and introduce them to the world of pen & paper role-playing games!
I’m particularly looking forward to the new toys! I’m looking forward to seeing how the power, tech and smart weapons work and especially how the quickhacks will be translated into pen & paper rules. Plus a new mission that ties in with the end of the anime, pre-made characters for newcomers (all designed by Edgerunners director Hiroyuki Imaishi, by the way) and most importantly: new dice! I already know what kind of cyberpunk adventure I’m going to run next!
Edgerunners already gave Cyberpunk 2077 a big boost, hopefully the same will happen with Cyberpunk Red.
