With a new trailer, the multiplayer shooter has given its first sign of life in over a year. The focus is on features that also advertise BF2042.
A few days ago we reported about the signs that the multiplayer shooter World War 3 will report back with a new sign of life after a long radio silence. A countdown on social media suggested something big, but so far there is only a new trailer.
The new material is also very well received by the community. On YouTube, the trailer has received over 9,000 thumbs up, while only 240 thumbs down were given. There is also a lot of praise in the comments.
Frapping similarities to Battlefield 2042
What the expert eye should notice when watching the trailer: Many of the innovations touted in the trailer are also present in the upcoming Battlefield 2042. The general look, such as the user interface and the text overlays on hits, also seems to have taken more than a glance at the competitor.
Examples? We know these elements in a similar way from Battlefield 2042:
– World War 3 has a call-in feature, as BF 2042 is now also advertising in its trailers. In both titles, you can request vehicles directly on the battlefield, which are then dropped by transport aircraft.
– You can modify your weapons without respawning. Even in the midst of battle, WW3’s backpack feature provides you with a range of attachments, such as a new sight. This mechanic is also known from the upcoming Battlefield and is called the Plus System.
– The Double Sprint was already introduced by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019). But the short-term speed boost will also be available in Battlefield 2042. World War 3 is now promoting the feature in the new trailer as well, with the running animations looking very similar to CoD and Battlefield.
So is this all cribbed? No, some of the features were even tested in World War 3 before the new Battlefield was even an issue. And since Battlefield 2042 wasn’t revealed until June 2021, there wouldn’t have been enough time to copy the features anyway. It is therefore unlikely that the developers of both titles are directly copying from each other, yet the convergence of the two games is striking in any case.
Will the game be a success this time?
But the best features in themselves are of no use if the game experience as a whole is no fun. And this is where World War 3 still has to prove that it can really compete with the greats. And then there’s the technology, which caused many players to bail out in the first attempt a few years ago.
On Twitter, some fans complained that the countdown was a bit too thick to just release a new trailer. But according to the developers, this was only the first part of a series of news about the game.
