The role-playing game has finally completed its life cycle. For the first time in ten years, no developers are working on Cyberpunk 2077

It’s over:Three and a half years have passed since the difficult release ofCyberpunk 2077. Now no one is officially working on the role-playing game anymore – so no more updates, patches or the like are to be expected. But it won’t be the last foray into the dystopian future

What the employees are now working on instead and what Cyberpunk 2077 has achieved up to its completion can be seen in the latest Financial Reportfrom CD Projekt.

Review of over ten years of development

Do you remember the very first trailer for Cyberpunk 2077? It was released in January 2013, here you can see the video again as a little reminder:

The role-playing game was released in December 2020 – and didn’t run smoothly for many at first. Even on the PC, which proved to be the most stable platform, the response was not as positive as the developers would have liked: The report notes that the game launched on Steam with a meagre 78 percent positive reviews.

In the years that followed, a lot of repair work was done, technical problems were fixed, promised features were delivered and community trust was regained. Cyberpunk 2077 now has 83 percent positive reviews on Steam, and the more recent ones are even higher at 94 percent positive. The Phantom Liberty add-on has a positive rating of 89 percent.

CD Projekt’s report also highlights winning the BAFTA Award 2024 for “Evolving Game”. The optimistic message to investors is therefore a successful conclusion. They are of course needed for the studio’s numerous upcoming projects

An overview shows that the era of Cyberpunk 2077 development is now over. While 17 employees were still responsible for the game in February 2024, no one was assigned to it at the end of April.

Parallel to this, Project Polaris, which employs the majority of the workforce, is also being created. Behind this is the next Witcher game, which marks the start of a new trilogy. Sirius is also set in the Witcher universe and is set to be at least partially multiplayer. Little is known about Hadar, which is CD Projekt Red’s first own brand.

Do you think Cyberpunk 2077 ends on a worthy note? Or would you have liked to see more updates to the game? If you are sorely missing a certain feature, there is at least hope that it will appear in Project Orion or Cyberpunk 2. A release date for this is not yet known, so you’ll probably have to wait a few more years
