However, this has to be measured less against the competition from Intel and more against the popular X3D processors from Ryzen 7000. At first glance, there is still some catching up to do here
In detail:As the portalWccftechreports, AMD is said to have informed various board partners that the Ryzen 7 9700X will require a higher power consumption than originally stated.
- This processor – and only this processor – is to receive an increased TDP limit of 120 watts.
- This value would be almost twice the power consumption that AMD had declared at the Ryzen 9000 presentation: Here, the company spoke of 65 watts.
These are the actual specs:The presentation of the Ryzen 7 9700X had already revealed all relevant technical data.
- The eight-core processor has a base clock of 3.8 GHz and a maximum boost clock of 5.5 GHz.
- According to the Wccftech report, the increased power consumption should result in at least one of the two clock speeds being increased.
- The base clock is explicitly mentioned as a possible candidate, as it is around 700 MHz lower than its direct predecessor, the Ryzen 7 7700X.
120-watt TDP already exists:However, a power consumption of 120 watts for Zen 5 would not be entirely new.
The next higher model in the form of the Ryzen 9 9900X also relies on a TDP of 120 watts, but also has four more cores, a larger L2+L3 cache and a slightly higher boost clock.
