With the release approaching, fans are waiting for more gameplay footage of Black Myth: Wukong. The site VGC was recently able to share new insights. It’s already clear: the mystical adventure game doesn’t have much to do with classic Souls-like gameplay.
Just as the original “Journey to the West” cannot simply be described as a mythological novel, Black Myth: Wukong cannot simply be described as souls-like.This is what VGC found in its hands-on testand explains that the title must be seen more as a cousin of the classic genre representatives.
The action adventure game offers tough enemies. However, the gameplay seems to be designed primarily for attacking rather than dodging. It’s all about hitting your opponents at crazy speed. However, if they attack themselves, you can only dodge at the last second to create a phantom against which the opponents fight. Meanwhile, we attack from the less dangerous side ourselves
In keeping with this daredevil fighting style, Game Science also confirmed that there will be no different difficulty levels. After all, in Black Myth: Wukong you take on the role of an experienced hero who has already fought many battles. To compensate for this, not all boss battles will be equally difficult.
So while we’ll be biting our teeth out on some enemies, we’ll probably be able to mow down others relatively quickly
Orientation to the original novel
As has already been explained at length, Black Myth: Wukong is based on the Chinese novel “The Journey to the West”, which was published during the 16th century at the time of the Ming Dynasty. In 100 chapters, the novel tells the story of the monkey Sun Wukong, who sets off with the Buddhist monk Xuanzang to bring the Empty Buddhas from the West to China.
In the very first chapters, the hero, known simply as the Monkey King, is portrayed as extremely foolhardy and impudent. As punishment, he is imprisoned under a rock for several hundred years until Xuanzang finally rescues him. The monk then gives him the name Sun Wukong and sets off on a journey to the west with him and other companions. On this journey, the monkey not only regularly saves the group from great dangers. He also retains his boisterous nature and aggressive fighting style.
The fact that Game Science made the corresponding gameplay decisions for Black Myth: Wukong shows how deeply the development studio has delved into the novel
OnAugust 20fans and interested parties will finally be able to play for themselves. This is when Black Myth: Wukong will finally be released for PC and PlayStation 5, although an Xbox version is also planned. However, due to porting difficulties on the Xbox Series S, Xbox players will have to wait a while longer. You can find more gameplay scenes of the action adventure in the following overview:
