The fan project Fallout: London is about to be released. However, anyone who owns Fallout 4 on Epic Games will not benefit from this for the time being
Only a short time separates us from the release ofFallout: London, a fan project that has built an entirely new game in the engine ofFallout 4. After the release was postponed indefinitely, only a few final tests need to be completed before the project is released on GOG.
So while most PC gamers will soon be able to explore a London ravaged by nuclear war, those who bought Fallout 4 from the Epic Games Store will be less fortunate.
Release not possible
According to the website VG247a GOG spokesperson has now explained that Fallout: London will not be compatible with the Epic version of Fallout 4 at release. And there is a simple reason for this. Because as werecently reported, Fallout: London uses an older version of Fallout 4. According to the modders, the latest update is simply too unstable for their project.
While it is possible to install an earlier version of the game on Steam and GOG, the Epic Games Store does not offer this function. For this reason, itis simply not possible to play Fallout: London at release via Epic
While an update for Fallout: London is supposed to make the game compatible with the latest version of Fallout 4 at a later date, there are further problems at Epic. As the developersexplain on Discord, the build in the Epic Games Store cannot use the Script Extender. However, this mod is an essential requirement for important functions of Fallout: London
So if you only own Fallout 4 there, you will probably have to buy the game on Steam or GOG to be able to play Fallout: London. After all, the game usually only costs a few euros in the sale.
Fallout: London will probably remain the only new Fallout game for the foreseeable future. Many fans are therefore hoping that Bethesda will allow another studio to develop a spin-off, as it did with Fallout: New Vegas. As the head of Larian, the studio behind Baldur’s Gate 3, explained in an interview, he would have liked to develop a new Fallout. You can read more about this in the news above.
