Pokémon fans would have been delighted to see this question on their biology exam, but even with gaming knowledge it’s not so easy to answer
Pokémon has clearly based the names of its game mechanics on real-life models. In German, the cute monsters undergo what is known as “evolution”, during which they not only change their appearance but also acquire new abilities.
We know a similar process from biology, in which living beings adapt and develop over many generations through changes in their genetic characteristics. One teacher took the keyword “evolution” as an opportunity to put his pupils to the test.
Reddit user posts exam question about Pokémon evolution
In the Pokémon subreddit, a user posted an optional question from his biology exam that addresses the topic:
Pokemon question in my Biology exam

The task describes how evolution works in Pokémon and uses Sandan as an example. If this Pokémon gains enough experience, it evolves into Sandamer.
So far, so good. Now to the actual task: “Describe two differences between the concepts of evolution in the game and natural selection in reality”.To answer this question, a sound knowledge of Pokémon alone is of little help. An understanding of the biological process of actual evolution is much more important.
The comments are nevertheless enthusiastic about the creative integration of a classic video game into biology lessons, even if some feel reminded of their advancing age.
Compepetive_Fact6030 praises the teacher:
It reads like the teacher is raving about his hobby in the test and just hoping some of the students will get it. Really sweet
What would you have answered and which video game crossovers would you have liked to see in your classroom?
