The summer sale is over? Never mind, because even in the week after, many good games are heavily discounted in the Midweek Madness
The Steam Summer Sale has just closed its doors, but we all know that the next sale is just around the corner anyway – both big (the Steam Fall Sale is sure to come soon) and small, because like every week, you can get tons of good games for little money in the current Midweek Madness.
So that you don’t have to rummage around aimlessly, we’ll help you a little with your selection with 14 recommendations that we can endorse with a clear conscience. Admittedly, we included Final Fantasy 9 because we wanted to persuade our colleague Mary to make us a nice teaser image for the article. But Final Fantasy 9 is also a fantastic role-playing game, okay!
So, let’s get started
Highlight of the week: Aliens: Dark Descent
- Genre: Real-time tactics
- Release: June 19, 2023
- Price & Discount:20 Euro (50 percent)
- Offer valid until: July 25, 2024
80s icons are currently having a really strong run. Terminator is constantly getting great games– and the Alien franchise has proven since Alien: Isolation at the latest that the scenario works perfectly as a gaming foundation. Isolation was followed by the cool shooterFireteam Eliteand most recentlyAliens: Dark Descent
Dark Descent shares many similarities with Fireteam Elite: You control Marines through an abandoned station that is overrun by hordes of Xenomorphs. However, you don’t slip into the soldiers’ shoes yourself, but operate them from a strategic top-down view. Dark Descent works a bit like XCOM in real time, but you never select a single unit, but always the entire squad.
Dark Descent unfolds an incredibly nerve-wracking risk-reward loop. You can drive your squad into increasingly dangerous environments for more and more loot – or you can make a break for it and start again the next day alive. Because: Dark Descent remains true to the horror roots of the original. At some point your marines will be overwhelmed by the hordes, at some point you will run out of time – there is no way around it. This makes every decision I have to make as a strategist all the more exciting
