No, Dolphin is not the Switch successor that many are currently waiting for.

Instead, Nintendo Dolphin is the name of the prototype for the Nintendo GameCube, which saw the light of day in 2002.

And this is what the Dolphin prototype might look like:

This is why it’s important:This is the first time a picture of the prototype has ever appeared on the Internet. This shows how much the console has changed from the prototype to the finished product – or not.

In detail:The name “Nintendo Dolphin” is written on the white lid, which must be part of the minidisk slot. Above it is a pictogram that looks like a mixture of the N64 and GameCube logos.

The social media account explains that this version of the GameCube is so rare that it was not allowed to publish the photos on the Internet until now. It is unclear whether consolecariations owns the prototype or where it got the pictures from.

More photos are to follow soon.

You can see a picture that looks very similar here (scroll down):

However, the picture is very blurred, which is why the lettering “Nintendo Dolphin” cannot be read.

The Nintendo Dolphin is not new

It is a given that the prototype exists. It is common for console manufacturers to send devkits of their devices to developers that do not yet reflect the finished console as it will appear in stores

Other well-known codenames for Nintendo consoles were the following:

  • “Revolution” for the Wii
  • “NX” for the Switch

Not everything Nintendo touches turns to gold. Here youll find 7 of the biggest flopsof the Japanese company.
