Why the studio stuck to the slip of the tongue is unclear – especially as another character in the game almost takes a beating for the slip of the tongue

Many of you will probably not know the name Roger Clark at first. He is an Irish-American actor who has played a number of roles, particularly in series.

His biggest role to date, however, has been as a voice actor. Which is why you may not know his face, but you may know his voice.Because Clark voices the main character Arthur Morgan inRed Dead Redemption 2 – and regrets a slip of the tongue to this day.

Actor answers questions from the community

In a Q&A on YouTubeRoger Clark answers questions from the community. The second question already leads to the slip of the tongue. In the video you will find the passage from minute 1:06.

The question to the actor is:

If you could have done something differently, whether it was a change in the story or something you would have liked to have done differently in the role, what would it have been?

Clark answers:

The only thing I regret is that I mispronounced Colm O’ Driscoll. Rockstar made me say it wrong. I warned Rockstar it was wrong, but they didn’t care. You pronounce it “Colom”, not Colm.

Immediately after the actor’s statement, a sequence from Red Dead Redemption 2 is shown in which Sean and Kieran are sitting around a campfire. Kieran also mispronounces Colm, to which Sean reacts very angrily and forces his counterpart to pronounce the name correctly under threat of violence

This indicates that Rockstar was well aware of how the name is pronounced. Why the studio still insisted that Roger Clark say “Colm” instead of “Colom” in his role as Arthur Morgan is not clarified in the video.

250,000 recorded lines of dialog

In the Q&A with Roger Clark, the actor not only talks about his slip of the tongue, which he regrets to this day.In the video, the actor also answers the question of whether there was a scene in the game that he struggled with, among other things.

In his answer, the actor refers to the four&nbsppossible end sequences of the game. For Clark personally, however, only one of these scenes is canonical because the others are out of the question due to the style of play that leads to them.

Finally, Clark is asked how many lines of dialog he had to record for the game.According to the actor, it was around 250,000. Clark has therefore recorded half of the 500,000 lines of dialog.

This corresponds roughly to a story script of 2,000 pages. However, the total script is significantly longer because, according to Rockstar Games, it also includes descriptions, instructions, explanations, references and notes.

At the same time, players will not hear all the lines of dialog in the game as they play through – for example, because there are four different endings and therefore different dialog options.
