Last week, Warner Bros. Pictures released the first trailer for the upcoming Minecraft movie. After the mixed reactions from the community, one fan went to the trouble of animating the trailer himself in the game’s block style.

In the four days since its release, there has been a huge run on the trailer for the Minecraft movie. The almost one-and-a-half-minute clip has now been viewed a whopping 32 million times. However, the like/dislike rate and the almost 160,000 comments show that the community is not exactly thrilled with the footage shown so far. Around 620,000 likes are matched by 1.4 million dislikes and the comments are also largely negative about the trailer

“Whoever gave the green light to the live action version must have been sniffing the finest Redstone dust,” commented one user, for example.

Another comment drawsa parallel to the film adaptation ofSonic the Hedgehogas we did in our last poston the Minecraft movie and teases:” We bullied Paramount until they redesigned Sonic. Can we bully Warner Bros until they redesign the whole movie?”
Whether Warner Bros. Pictures will really go that far seems rather questionable. But what the studio won’t take in hand, a YouTuber and designer now seems to have taken in hand himself

Alumio re-animates the trailer

Since the trailer release, the Minecraft community has been rebelling against the CGI or live-action approach of the movie adaptation. Instead, they are calling for an animation in the style of the in-game block graphics.
Animator Alumio has addressed this criticism. The creator has been uploading his own Minecraft animations to his channel for 5 years now. He has been able to gather a proud 108,000 subscribers behind him since then. A good portion of these have probably been added since the publication of his latest video

DennAlumiouploaded an animated version of the Minecraft trailer to various platforms yesterday. OnYouTubethe video has nowbeenviewedtwo million timesand has received almost 250,000 likes. Only 444 people did not seem to like the video

Theover 17,000 commentsare also largely positive about the film. Many note that this is what the movie should look like. Others add that this animation was only realized in a few days. They therefore hope that Warner Bros. Pictures will also be able to realize a corresponding animation quickly.

If Warner Bros. Pictures admits defeat and listens to the Minecraft community, the premiere on April 2, 2025is likely to betight. We will keep you up to date on further developments regarding Minecraft
