We Harvest Shadows was announced during Gamescom and has already generated a lot of interest with its mix of farming and horror

Living in a big city can be pretty stressful. So Garrett decides to spend all his money on a small farm in the middle of nowhere and spend the rest of his life in solitude. But is he really alone here?

This is the premise of We Harvest Shadows, a dark farming simulation with horror elements. Presented at Gamescom, the title has apparently already managed to inspire some players. As the developer has now revealed, the game has alreadylanded on over 100,000 wish lists

Tomatoes, chickens and ghosts

Your story in We Harvest Shadows starts quite harmlessly: You clean up your new house, plant some tomatoes and collect money by selling wood. You use the money you earn to buy new and better tools, repair the farm and expand it with a chicken coop, for example. You can also explore the farm’s extensive surroundings, either on foot or by vehicle.

However, it quickly becomes apparent that something is wrong: Garrett’s mental state is anything but stable and he doesn’t seem to be completely alone on the farm after all. Doors open by themselves, strange noises can sometimes be heard at night and things can be seen. However, the horror is intended to focus more on story and atmosphere than on lots of scary moments.

Your only protection against the dangers of loneliness is to continue building your new home. To prevent Garrett from losing his mind, you must keep your house clean and expand the farm. The further you progress, the more you will learn about the character’s history

If you are interested in the concept of We Harvest, you can already try out the first part of the game as ademo on Steam However, there is no release date yet.

We Harvest Shadows was created by solo developer David Wehle. As he recently revealed in an update to the game on Steam, the main character of We Harvest Shadows also has similarities with himself. Wehle battled burnout and depression and thought about leaving the games industry behind for good. The developer is all the more pleased about the positive feedback on his game. Incidentally, this is not the first time Wehle has told an emotional story. He previously developed the adventure The First Tree, which also touched Elena deeply. She explains why in her column.
