Larger, narrower, but with a similar design: This image could show the prototype of the Switch 2.

Just this morning, rumors were circulating about the name of the Switch successor , and now the first image of the prototype has emerged – along with technical data. As always, a leak is not confirmation.

Where did the leak come from? The snapshots first appeared on the Chinese Famiboards forum. The post has since been deleted, but the images can be found on Reddit and on .

It is not possible to say for sure whether these are genuine.

The timing would suggest this, as Nintendo is likely to start mass producing the console soon. In addition, at least the two hardware images match those from an earlier leak and are also largely classified as credible by community voices on Reddit and on the Chinese platform Baidu.

However, there are doubts about the render images, which make up a large part of the image material. For example, Tom Warren from the US site The Verge points out that the leaker is a Chinese 3D printing and reverse design enthusiast. He has since deleted the images from his profile.

What does the console look like? The closest comparison is the OLED version of Nintendo’s Switch. It appears narrower, the screen is larger and the display borders are thinner.

  • The screen measures 8 inches (approx. 27 cm) and is thus slightly more than 3 cm larger than the Switch OLED.

Technical data also leaked

In addition to the images, technical data about the console is also circulating, which comes from the same Chinese forum but from a different person. The data reads as follows:

  • Nvidia Tegra T239 (GMLX30-R-A1)
  • 256 GB UFS 3.1 flash memory up to 2,100 MB/s (Kioxia THGJFGT 1E45BAILHW0)
  • 12 GB LPDDR5X-7,500-RAM (Micron MT62F768M64D4EK-026)
  • Audio chip (Ruiwu ALC5658-CG)
  • NFC chip (NXP IPN7160B1HN)
  • Microphone (CMB-MIC-X7)
  • Two fans (BSM0405HPJH9 & BSM0505HPJQC)
  • DisplayPort to HDMI 2.1 converter chip (Ruixian RTD2175N)
  • Wi-Fi and Ethernet (Ruiming RTL8153B-VB-CG)

If the leaks turn out to be true, confirm the rumors of the past few months, namely that the successor would be an improved version of the previous Switch.

It wouldn’t be unlikely. Nintendo is known for adding innovations to new consoles, but the Switch is the company’s second most successful console of all time. So Nintendo could play it safe.

Nothing has been confirmed by Nintendo However, the well-informed magazine Videogamechronicle, reports that the images match what the Japanese company has shown to its partners.

An official announcement of the Switch 2 is currently pending. However, it can be assumed that it won’t be too long before Nintendo lifts the veil. Whether it will happen this year, however, is currently rather unlikely – after all, Nintendo itself has announced that it does not want to share any further information about the new console this year.
