An analyst claims to have first-hand information that Black Myth: Wukong will receive an expansion for the Chinese New Year expansion.

Last week, the first rumors were already circulating that Black Myth: Wukong would receive two expansions that would even double the size of the game. Meanwhile, another leaker has come forward claiming to know the release date.

Supplies are expected early next year

The person in question is analyst Daniel Camilo, who, among other things, works as a consultant for publishers in Shenzhen, China. This person claims to have learned fromreputable first-handsources thatthe release of an expansion for Black Myth: Wukong planned for the period around the Chinese New Year in 2025.

This will take place on January 29, 2025, which means that the release is supposedly planned for late January or early February 2025. Furthermore, the announcement is to be made before the end of December this year. However, he also writes that the dates are still subject to change and that release dates in the games industry are generally never set in stone.

How reliable is the leak?; It is possible that Camilo, due to his job and place of residence, can obtain secret information at first hand. Nevertheless, the leak should be treated with caution, as it is not known from other predictions that have been made and he himself points out that the release may still change despite internal planning.

80 percent fewer sales

Also of interest and to be taken seriously is Camilo’s additional assessment regarding the expected sales figures for the alleged expansion. He assumes that only 20 percent of the players who bought the main game will also buy the expansion.

He attributes this, among other things, to the high level of difficulty of the Souls-like. In addition, 70 percent of sales were in China, but this is largely due to the novelty of a Chinese AAA game and Chinese national pride. However, these factors have now been exhausted.
With currently almost 20 million units of the game sold worldwide, this would still mean 4 million expansions sold.

On Steam, Black Myth: Wukong has an impressive 95 percent positive rating with over 600,000 user reviews. The number of players active at the same time also remains impressive.
Although the peak of 2 million players reached shortly after release is no longer reached, even a month later, over 500,000 people are still playing the Chinese Soulslike game every day. For a pure single-player title without a big brand name, the numbers are more than impressive.
