EA FC 25 has now done away with the hated Season Pass – but don’t get too excited

Surprisingly, the paid Season Pass has been removed from the release version of EA FC 25. But maybe only to release it later after all.

Shortly before the highly anticipated launch of EA Sports FC 25, there is now a turnaround: The originally planned paid season pass, which would have also asked you to pay in career mode, will not be included in the game at release.

Instead, as in previous years, the publisher is relying on a classic, free season pass in Ultimate Team mode. But before you start cheering, you should know that the paid premium pass could soon be back on the scene.

Tactic or insight?

In the weeks leading up to the release, there were heated discussions about the planned premium season pass. Many players feared that EA would bring its aggressive monetization strategies to single-player modes in the future. An infamous example of this is the Ultimate Team mode, where microtransactions have long been an integral part.

Now EA seems to have listened to the criticism– or at least recognized that introducing a paid season pass right at release could put a lot of pressure on the launch of the new EA FC 25.

It is conceivable that EA made this decision deliberately to avoid negative headlines in the sensitive review phase. A social media storm shortly after the launch could quickly lead to bad reviews and disappointed fans – which in turn would jeopardize sales.

The decision to omit the Premium Pass may therefore have been more a calculated one than an act of good judgment.

At the launch of EA Sports FC 25, there will initially only be the familiar free Season Pass to guide you through the game as usual, offering rewards such as packs, players and cosmetic items. It remains to be seen how long this phase will last and what benefits paying players might enjoy later.
