(Better marketing than Sony) – In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, experts show that the PS5 Pro will likely be a bigger graphics leap

Sony was rather modest at the original presentation.

The PlayStation 5 Pro was announced at a “technical technical presentation« conducted by PS5 chief architect Mark Cerny.

In it, Sony focused in particular on the graphics comparison between the regular PS5 and the Pro version, for example in games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 or The Last of Us 2.

However, there was no real enthusiasm did not arise, however, from the improvements shown – which the price of 800 euros certainly has to do with.

PS5 Pro: “A difference like night and day”

In the approximately seven-minute sequence, Digital Foundry shows the start of the second chapter of Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, which is completed in performance mode on the two Sony consoles.

  • The PlayStation 5 Pro scores with “significantly more detail”. In particular, the environmental textures are more detailed and clearer.
  • The characters also only “really shine” on the PS5 Pro.
  • The ghosting problems that could be seen on the regular PlayStation, for example with fast camera movements, are also largely history on the Pro console.

In general, there are significantly fewer artifacts to be seen in Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth on the PS5 Pro.

However, individual still images show a “slight clunkiness” in certain particles in the fast-paced combat scenes. This is due to PSSR, Sony’s new AI upscaler, as Digital Foundry suspects.

What about quality mode?

The Digital Foundry team also took a closer look at the second PlayStation mode. As a reminder, the regular PlayStation 5 reduces the frame rate to 30 FPS, but renders in (almost) 4K resolution.

  • Here, too, the Pro-Console has a clear advantage, with “outstanding sharpness” in skin textures and more distant objects.
  • The advantage over the base model is apparent, even though the Pro console works with a lower native resolution.
  • However, “strange shimmering” can be observed on the PS5 Pro in hair textures, for example. Here, too, PSSR is seen as the cause.

Overall, the PlayStation 5 Pro is “exactly the console Mark Cerny promised,” according to the conclusion. Gamers get the graphics quality rendered at 30 FPS on the PS5; while the double frame rate preferred by gamers is consistently maintained.

The comments under the YouTube video also show that people are much more favorably disposed towards the Pro console than it was during Sony’s own presentation.

  • Digital Foundry is doing “better advertising for the PS5 Pro than Sony”; in general, users are impressed by the improvements.
  • The original PlayStation 5’s performance mode is getting a lot of flak in the process: current games are a “washed-out disaster”.

However, many users are also of the opinion that the original PlayStation 5 should have been able to provide this level of graphics quality. So we want to know what you think about the performance of the PS5 console? Is the upgrade a reason for you to consider buying the PS5 Pro or is the price still the big deterrent?
