Nintendo has announced an alarm clock. This is how the community reacts to it.

Nintendo has announced new hardware – but it’s not the successor to the Nintendo Switch, it’s an alarm clock. The device is called “Sound Clock: Alarmo” and has some smart features designed to help you get up every morning.

The community is taking the new product with humor.

What you need to know about “Alarmo”

Features: The alarm clock can wake you up at the preset time with sounds and songs from the Nintendo universe. There are also other functions:

  • A motion sensor detects whether you are moving. The alarm clock then plays sounds that synchronize with your movements. The more you move, the quieter the alarm clock becomes.
  • If you get out of bed, the alarm signal will probably switch off automatically.
  • Alarmo can create statistics about your sleep and show you how often you move during sleep or how long it took you to get out of bed.
  • Snooze sounds potentially help you fall asleep with calm sounds.
  • You have the choice between a power wake-up call with increasing volume or a gentle wake-up call that has a constant volume.

Wake-up calls:; there are a total of 35 wake-up calls from seven different Nintendo titles:

  • Super Mario Odyssey
  • The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild
  • Splatoon 3
  • Pikmin 4
  • RingFit Adventure
  • Animal Crossing New Horizons (available at a later date; only with a Nintendo account link)
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (available later; only with Nintendo Account Linkage)

The design on the alarm clock screen changes depending on the game selected.

Price and availability: The Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo will be available to purchase from the My Nintendo Store later this week for $100.

However, there is still a catch: The alarm clock will initially only be available to Nintendo Switch Online members until January 2025.

Reactions from the internet

The community takes the announcement with humor for the most part. These are the top comments under the announcement video on the YouTube channel of Nintendo of America:

“RTGame” is excited that we’re finally getting new Nintendo hardware: “I can’t believe the Switch 2 is finally here”.

“Tahatahiri3124” believes in an unfortunately formulated wish: “The guy who wished for new Nintendo hardware from Genie should have formulated his wish more carefully”.

“CheapFlashyLoris” demonstrates a use case for the new alarm clock: “Link… Wake up, Link… You’ve been late for work twice this week already… They’ll fire you, Link…”

And AaronDM4 on Reddit noticed a small but disappointing detail about the alarm clock:

We got the Nintendo alarm clock before GTA 6

Maxe noticed the screen too. Read on to find out what he thinks about it: I find Nintendo’s Alarmo really charming and cute, but one detail really gets on my nerves.

And now it’s your turn: What do you think of the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo? Are you going to buy the device? Were you surprised by the announcement? What do you think about the fact that a Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for the purchase and that the device will only be available for a limited period of time? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!
