“Reimagined X3D” is the motto of the presentation.

The rumor mill has been cooking on an open flame for a while; now AMD is officially confirming an initial date for the upcoming X3D processors for Ryzen 9000.

As Jack Huynh, AMD’s “Senior Vice President and General Manager of Computing and Graphics Business Group,” explained on X/Twitter on Monday afternoon, the CPU maker will explain more about Ryzen 9000X3D on November 7, 2024.

Huynh did not specify which processors would be presented – but it is likely that the Ryzen 7 9800X3D will play the main role and be shown preferentially.

  • After all, this model has a difficult legacy to live up to with the recently withdrawn Ryzen 7 5800X3D and the increasingly expensive Ryzen 7 7800X3D.
  • Huynh is at least convinced that the next generation of X3D chips will also master this task: “Legends are written by those who dare to be brave”.
  • In the teaser video itself, you are spoken of a “reinterpretation” of X3D.

“X3D reimagined” – what could that mean?

Since AMD can no longer be coaxed out of this, we have to leave the path of the confirmed at this point and refer to the leaks and rumors circulating about the technical data of the X3D processors.

The “reinterpretation” would at least make sense if we consider a leak from the end of September:

  • The usually well-informed Benchlife portal (via Techpowerup) stated here that for the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and Ryzen 9 9950X3D, both CCDs (“Compact Core Die”) are to be equipped with the eponymous 3D-V cache for the first time.
  • Previously, only one of the CCDs was equipped with 3D cache. AMD used its own scheduler logic for this, with video games running on this part of the processor while multithreaded applications used the entire CPU.

Since there should be 64 MB of 3D cache in addition to the usual 32 MB of L3 cache, the two processors mentioned would have a total of 192 MB of combined L3 cache. However, the fact that the Ryzen 7 9800X3D will also rely on this is not mentioned in the benchmark leak.
