Just in time for the release, PathTracing is also coming to Indiana Jones and the Great Circle – if you have one of the few approved GPUs.
On December 6, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle started in Early Access – now the official release of the adventure has also taken place. As a result, there is also the first update to the game , which comes with two important new features:
- The controversial Denuvo copy protection is no longer available from today.
- Full raytracing aka pathtracing is available.
After the huge system requirements and first performance checks for Indiana Jones and The Great Circle without Pathtracing, the question arises as to how the game from MachineGames would handle the full raytracing program.
The bad news is that if your Nvidia graphics card has less than 12 GB of video memory, you won’t be able to access path tracing at all. AMD GPUs won’t get the option at all, regardless of the available VRAM. The following graphics cards are therefore theoretically suitable for using full raytracing in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle:
- RTX 3060 in the 12 GB version, RTX 3080 (Ti), RTX 3090
- RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB and higher
Accordingly, the performance that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle can achieve with these requirements remains questionable. Our colleagues at PC Games Hardware, for example, have provisionally attested a risk of crashes for all Nvidia graphics cards with less than 16 GB of VRAM; full tests are still in progress.
Even on Reddit, mixed feelings about the path tracing update can still be found. While owners of an RTX 4090 in particular are pleased with good FPS numbers and beautiful images, there is grumbling about several configurations.

A RTX 3080 Ti with 12 GB of video memory therefore only achieves an average of 17 FPSwith path tracing turned on, including the DLSS quality preset in 1440p resolution.
Another user reports that even an RTX 4070 Super achieves around 20 frames per second with these settings.

According to the comments, a possible fix is to disable the “low latency mode”, which you can find in the Nvidia control panel under “Manage 3D settings”.
