A group of modders is working on a completely new story for the popular role-playing game.
As the announced patch with twelve new subclasses proves, developer Larian is not quite finished with Baldur’s Gate 3 However, the campaign itself is complete and so the task of telling new stories in BG3 falls to the modding community.
And they are already hard at work, as the project “Path to Menzoberranzan”shows.
The City of Spiders
There is currently no information about the specific story of the fan-developed campaign, but the head of the Lotrich3 project is constantly posting short updates of the mod on YouTube and Reddit.

The pictures show Waukeens Promenade, a part of the city of Athkatla, which is of course familiar to connoisseurs of Dungeons & Dragons, but was also visited in the game Baldur’s Gate 2.
Work is also being done on the eponymous Menzoberranzan. The City of Spiders is one of the largest drow cities and is being developed from the ground up for the mod. New parts of the underdark can already be seen in some videos, because Menzoberranzan lies in its depths.
The mod will be free and, according to Lotrich3, will have new items, locations, quests, dialogues, companions and more. However, the project is not being developed with Larian’s official mod tools, but with a toolkit from Nexusmods called Moonglasses.
A team of around 120 volunteers is working on the project, explains Lotrich3 on Reddit. In addition, a good 50 speakers are involved. The work can be supported via a Patreon page The team leader expects a playable beta in about five months.
The community is excited.
The project has received nothing but praise in Reddit posts and YouTube videos. Reddit user LobsidedBlacksmith5 writes: “Wow, that looks cool!”  ;FramingA agrees: »This is going to be so much fun, I’m so excited.«
In response to the info about the 50 voice actors, tdy96 reacts as follows: “This is absolutely the best response. I saw a few mods start using AI voices and was worried. I can’t wait for the release.«
Although Lotrich3 is optimistic about releasing a beta in a few months, mods always depend on the support of fans, and ambitious projects like “Path to Menzoberranzan” require a lot of stamina from everyone involved.
