Although Larian has announced that they will not develop Baldur’s Gate 4, the Shadowheart actress is open to further appearances by her character.

The role-playing game Baldur’s Gate 3 was and is a gigantic success. In September, the game received its long-awaited mod support. According to Larian’s CEO Swen Vincke, Baldur’s Gate 3 was thus more or less put into the hands of fans.

Although the developer will be releasing a patch with twelve subclasses soon, there will be no Baldur’s Gate 4 from Larian. The studio already made that clear in spring 2024. Nevertheless, many fans would like to see at least the characters from the third part return at some point in the future.

“But only under these conditions”

One of them could be Shadowheart – one of the most popular companions in Baldur’s Gate 3. In our ranking of your favorite companions in the role-playing game, the cleric came in second.

Her voice actress, actress Jennifer English, recently revealed in an interview with GamesRadar+ that the cast is open to the future of the project.English is ready for it, but has several conditions:

If there is a future with Shadowheart, I would want it to be beautifully written and honor the game’s audience and how inclusive and forward-thinking Larian is. If the opportunity arises and it is beautifully written and honors the audience and inclusivity, I would certainly consider it – but only under those conditions.

By the way: In our video, Shadowheart and Karlach, your two favorite companions, take on an entire Duergar team together:

No cartoon version of Shadowheart

Jennifer English also emphasizes that Shadowheart’s character should not be ridiculed. The actress says:

I wouldn’t want to take her and turn her into a cartoon version of herself. I would only do that if it honored her in a way that we would all be proud of.

In the interview, the actress also talks about Larian and says that she loves the studio’s integrity, among other things. Because even though Larian has ruled out developing another Baldur’s Gate, Hasbro, which holds the rights to D&D, could decide to make its own game with the characters from the third installment.

English also says she was happy not to know in advance how successful Baldur’s Gate 3 might be:

I love acting so much. I love the process, and I think it’s really important to just see the truth of a character and not think about whether it’s going to be a fan favorite or be loved, because then you create kind of a performative style of delivery—which doesn’t suit me.

And further on:

Sometimes people love this character and sometimes they hate this character. I have no problem continuing with that. It’s so important for us as actors to focus on this truth, and when we start thinking about the reactions, we lose some of it. That’s why I’m really glad I didn’t know how big a success this game would be – if I had known, it wouldn’t have been good for the character at all.

While Larian is currently working on a new patch with twelve subclasses, a new mega-campaign is being created for Baldur’s Gate 3.A group of modders is therefore working on a completely new story for the role-playing game.

The project is called “Path to Menzoberranzan” and will take players to the eponymous City of Spiders, one of the largest Drow cities in the Under-Empire, among other places.
