Nvidia drops the covers and presents the RTX 5090 at CES 2025. You’ll have to dig deep into your pockets for the new flagship.

The cat is out of the bag: Nvidia officially presented the Geforce RTX 5090 at today’s CES 2025. The flagship of the Blackwell generation is the monster GPU that was expected – in every respect, because the recommended retail price is entering new territory at $1,999.

A Euro price has also been set: the RTX 5090 is to go over the counter in this country starting at 2,329 euros. By way of comparison, the RTX 4090 was 1,949 euros at its release at the end of 2022.

All other important announcements from Nvidia at CES can be found in the following articles. In view of the price issue, the RTX 5080 is particularly noteworthy, as it is clearly cheaper than its predecessor, unlike the RTX 5090.

The details of the RTX 5090 will follow directly after the Nvidia keynote video embedded below.

This is the RTX 5090

With the price, we already have the only unknown parameter of the RTX 5090 behind us, because the technical data of the new Nvidia GPU that was presented has already been leaked several times in the past few weeks.

With two slots, the RTX 5090 is surprisingly thin – in addition, the manufacturer lists the following specifications for the RTX 5090 on the official website:

Nvidia Geforce RTX 5090 Nvidia Geforce RTX 4090

Nominally, Nvidia is increasing the number of CUDA cores and memory by 33 percent compared to the RTX 4090.

In the manufacturer’s own benchmarks, the upgrade of the RTX 5090 results in a performance increase of up to 200 percent over the RTX 4090. However, these values are particularly due to the help of the new DLSS 4.

According to the official website, the games in which the RTX 5090 is supposed to shine are those that offer path tracing options.

Nvidia names Cyberpunk 2077, Alan Wake 2 or Black Myth: Wukong, among others, as titles for which the RTX 5090 is supposed to deliver the promised double performance.

Nvidia benchmarks for Far Cry 6 and A Plague Tale: Requiem, on the other hand, show a significantly smaller performance advantage, which roughly corresponds to the increase in shader units at around 30 percent.

Release and independent benchmarks

The RTX 5090 will be released together with the RTX 5080 on Thursday, January 30, 2025. The RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 will follow in February, but a specific date is not yet known.

In the past, the embargo for independent tests at Nvidia often fell on a Tuesday at 3 p.m. So it is conceivable that it will be on January 28 or even on January 21, which was mentioned as a date in the run-up to the official presentation.
