Has Valve secretly created an entry for Half-Life 3 on Steam? But the invisible game could also be unspectacular gift cards.

So much has been said and written about Half-Life 3 that we can’t even think of any good articles to get into on the umpteenth supposed leak. The fact is that alongside GTA 6, the third part of the revolutionary shooter series is probably one of the most anticipated games of all time.

The game has become a symbol of tough tests of patience and eternal waiting in the community. After the release of Half-Life 2, the series was silent for 13 years before Valve successfully tried its hand at a VR game from the franchise with Half-Life: Alyx in 2020.

Now, just in time for the new year, the rumor mill is buzzing again about a possible sequel to the beloved shooter series. What’s going on?

What is currently giving fans hope for Half-Life 3?

For one thing, a cryptic video by Mike Shapiro, known to fans as the voice of the mysterious G-Man, recently caused a stir. In his New Year’s message, the voice actor hinted at unexpected surprises for 2025.

And American journalist and industry insider Jason Schreier also wrote in his prediction for the new year that 2025 would finally see the announcement of Half-Life 3. Enough material, then, to get fans’ keen senses tingling. A new clue about the game could now be hiding on Steam, of all places.

Currently, an invisible Steam entry is making Half-Life fans prick up their ears. As Reddit user Relevant_Basis5444 has found out, developer Valve is currently listing two products in the category Upcoming Release One of them is Valve’s previously unreleased MOBA shooter Deadlock, but the other entry is invisible and does not appear in the list even after removing all content filters.

I could be onto nothing here but is this new?

Fans therefore now suspect that they have found Half-Life 3 here and that the secret entry is the hidden Steam page of the upcoming shooter sequel. However, the truth could be much less spectacular.

Some users suspect that the missing entry could be a simple bug, while other users point out that the entry does not necessarily have to be a game. This is because the Steam store also sells hardware such as the Valve Index headset or the Steam Deck – not to mention Steam gift cards.

And these were already listed as Upcoming Release on Steam at the end of last year, although you have been able to buy the cards for years (via archive.org). So the most logical explanation for the mysterious game would simply be that this is an outdated entry for gift cards that Valve has set to invisible.

Because even if the entry really is for an upcoming game, there is no evidence that it is Half-Life 3. So far, there is no other evidence of the existence of Half-Life 3 in the Steam backend.
