The new update for Sons of the Forest brings over 100 bug fixes, new features and a smarter Kelvin.

Sons of the Forest has received a major update: more than 100 bug fixes, new features and other improvements are now designed to make your excursion into the dangerous cannibal forests even more exciting. We show you the most important changes.

The new features in the major update for Sons of the Forest

The first highlight of the update is the new means of transportation on the water: You can now choose between three different types of rafts and, with the help of a jetty, securely moor your boats near the base.

The boundaries of the game world have also been expanded, making exploration by boat even more exciting – but we don’t yet know whether developer Endnight Games has hidden a few dangerous surprises here.

The proven construction system has also been further improved: With the new blueprint mechanic for defensive walls, all you have to do is draw a construction task – your loyal AI companion Kelvin will then collect the necessary resources and build the walls independently. This leaves you with more time for exploring or fighting the cannibals and mutants.

What’s more, a new secret outfit is hiding somewhere in the game world – perfect for all explorers.

Improvements and bug fixes

Especially fans of ranged weapons can rejoice: The accuracy of the crossbow, compound bow, homemade bow, shotgun, and slingshot has been noticeably improved. Those who play with a laser sight will now benefit from a more precise projectile trajectory – making ranged combat significantly more effective.

There is also a long overdue innovation in co-op mode: If a teammate dies while swimming, they can now be resurrected directly in the water.

The bulk of the update is dedicated to bug fixes: A total of 128 issues were addressed, ranging from minor graphical glitches to more disruptive gameplay bugs. For example, the annoying inventory glitch that occurred after consuming an item is now a thing of the past.

Logical errors such as freezing in the so-called have also been corrected. In addition, drying racks now finally work as intended and dry items over a fire correctly. Despite the success of Sons of the Forest, which was one of the best-selling early access games on Steam in 2023, it still lags behind its predecessor in one respect : While The Forest still enjoys an extremely positive rating and has seen a high of over 23,000 concurrent players in the last 24 hours, the sequel currently has a very positive rating and around 19,000 players.
