Discord already replaced TeamSpeak as the voice chat software of choice years ago, but that is about to change.

While Teamspeak was always ahead of the pack when it came to memes and self-irony on its own X-channel, competitor Discord was able to convince significantly more as a software for voice chats and communities. However, that is set to change in 2025, because the online meeting place of your excessive Counter-Strike phase in the mid-2000s is planning a major comeback.

New look, same old nastiness

This doesn’t happen without a little dig at Discord, though. A post on X advertises the new streaming features of the upcoming update.

In a comment you will find a link to the Discord support page, which tells you how to cancel your Nitro subscription with the competitor. A few days earlier, there was a similar joke, but the link led to instructions on how to delete your Discord account.

What can the new Teamspeak do?

As the X post shows, the user interface is being fundamentally revised and looks, well, a bit more like Discord.

On the left side, you will find the server list and also your contacts, followed by group chats and your own bookmarks. The server has individual channels, which in the example are divided by video game.

The channels themselves have their own text chat below the window for the streams that users can start and share with other channel members.

The streams can be transmitted in 1440p and at 60 FPS. For this quality, the Nitro subscription is required on Discord. It is currently unknown whether Teamspeak will introduce a similar model.

In addition, servers can be rented and managed directly in the application via Teamspeak itself. Until now, players have had to set up a server themselves or rent one from an external provider.

According to the countdown in the posts on X, the new Teamspeak should already be available. It remains to be seen whether there is useful software behind the memes and whether it will be developed as a real alternative to Discord. In terms of functionality, Teamspeak is more in line with its competitor and offers modern community management.
