The hit series Squid Game will enter its third and final round as early as summer 2025.

We just sat next to the Christmas tree and watched the second season of Squid Game, and now we already know when the final season 3 will be released.

Nevertheless, the release date does not come as a complete surprise, because Netflix already leaked a possible date in a teaser for season 3 on its own YouTube channel for South Korea at the beginning of January 2025. Shortly thereafter, however, the clip disappeared from the platform again.

Showdown in the summer of 2025

On X (formerly Twitter), Netflix is now announcing that season 3 of Squid Game will be released on June 27, 2025 Accordingly, we only have to wait five months for the showdown between Gi-hun and the frontman to enter its final and decisive round.

“Nothing can prepare you for the final season of Squid Game,” reads the text above the poster for Season 3.

The official Squid Game channel also has the first photos of the new season, showing, among other things, a chained Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae).

What we know so far about season 3 of Squid Game

In addition to Gi-hun and the frontman, some players who survived season 2 could also return:

  • Jun-hee/Player 222 (Jo Yu-ri)
  • Geum-ja/Player 149 (Kang Ae-sim)
  • Yong-sik/Player 007 (Yang Dong-geun)
  • Nam-gyu/Player 124 (Roh Jae-won)

What new faces we can expect is not yet known.

What happens in the future of the Squid Game universe?

Even though season 3 is the finale of Squid Game, further projects are already planned. Accordingly, the reality show The Challenge is returning with a second season. Incidentally, it follows the same concept as Squid Game – only the fight for the prize money does not end fatally.

Director David Fincher (Seven, The Social Network) is said to be working on a new series as early as 2025. However, contrary to initial assumptions, this is not a US remake of Squid Game, but rather a spin-off.

Squid Game without the iconic green tracksuits of the candidates? Hard to imagine. If only because they were a pretty popular Halloween costume in the year of the release of season 1 – that is, 2021. In fact, there was a brief discussion about whether the uniform should be given a new color in season 2. Ultimately, however, the director Hwang Dong-hyuk decided against it.
