This week’s highlights

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

(Genre: Role-playing – Developer: Warhorse Studios – Release: February 4, 2025 (Steam)

In; Kingdom Come: Deliverance; 2; you once again take on the role of Henry, who seeks his destiny in the sprawling and detailed medieval open world of Bohemia.

The gameplay relies on authentic sword fights, which are seen from a first-person perspective – precise timing when blocking, dodging and countering determines victory or defeat. Thanks to an innovative damage and exhaustion system, you feel the effect of every blade and every parry.

Your decisions also have a lasting effect on the course of the story, while side quests and political intrigue give the medieval experience additional story depth.

This could be an RPG milestone that rivals The Witcher 3 in terms of quality, because the first ten hours of gameplay have already convinced us completely.

Sid Meier’s Civilization 7

(Genre: 4X-Strategiespiel – Entwickler: Firaxis – Release: 6. Februar 2025 – Advanced Access für bestimmte Editionen (Steam)

Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 brings a host of fresh ideas to the renowned strategy game series – and that has already sparked a lot of discussion in advance.

This time, you will guide your civilization through three distinctive ages: ancient, discovery and modern. Each age offers unique challenges and opportunities, because with each new era you have to choose a new culture.

Another important new feature is the ability to combine leaders and civilizations independently of each other. For example, you can put Benjamin Franklin at the head of the Mayan empire or let Emperor Augustus lead Russia. This allows you to create many unique combinations and try out different strategies, but purists are sure to bristle at the thought.
