Battlefield 2042 relies on post-launch content supply in the form of Seasons and a Battle Pass.
“The release is our launch point “
The developers confirmed that the retail launch on 22 October 2021 is only to mark the starting point of “Battlefield 2042”. In the future, they want to work closely with the community to deliver new content that fans really want, the creators promise.
And this content is supposed to be free, because Battlefield relies on the established model of Seasons and Battle Pass for its service offering, as CoD Warzone, Apex Legends or Rainbow Six: Siege have been doing for some time. There are no map packs or anything like that.
By the way, dealing with genre competitors is exactly in line with the zeitgeist of the shooter genre!
All game-relevant content will appear in the form of free updates or be included in the free path of the Battle Pass, which is released four times a year and automatically unlocks all players. The like has already been confirmed:
– New Multiplayer Maps
– New specialists with their own gadgets & abilities
– New weapons (usable for all classes)
All Battle Pass content from this category can be unlocked at no additional cost. New content for multiplayer, such as maps or specialists, is also always available directly in the Battlefield Portal. Battle Pass progress is made in any game mode, whether you play in multiplayer, the Hazard Zone or a Portal lobby.
How much extra does it cost?
Cosmetic content can also be unlocked in the premium path of the respective Battle Pass for an additional charge. This includes special skins or weapon attachments. The developers emphasise that paid DLC content should never influence the balance or the actual gameplay.
By the way, you can already see very well what this content looks like in the pre-order bonuses and the extras in the more expensive Gold and Ultimate editions, as well as the soldier outfits revealed so far:

Do leakers know more yet?
Tom Henderson reveals even more details about the season model on Twitter. He is considered an insider with reliable contacts in the industry and had predicted many details very accurately in the run-up to the unveiling of Battlefield 2042. He is therefore considered relatively reliable.
Nevertheless, his information should always be taken with a grain of salt! Henderson writes on Twitter that each new season will be included in Battlefield 2042:
– One new specialist
– Two new MP maps
– Two new Portal maps
– An update to Hazard Zone (story focus)
– 6-8 new weapons
– 2-3 new vehicles
– 100 levels in the Battle Pass
One hundred levels per Battle Pass is now considered standard in the shooter industry, so this information should come as no surprise. However, the number of maps, weapons and vehicles sounds very ambitious, considering that a season only lasts three months.
As soon as we receive confirmed information on the season content from the developers, you will of course find it out here immediately.
