Football world champion Mesut Özil is in fortnite fever. Because the professional from Arsenal London has to take a break due to the corona virus, he is gambling on Twitch with his organisation M10 Esports as well as the football professionals Sead Kolašinac and Julian Draxler.

A rare sight: Mesut Ozil can be seen on the Twitch stream. Wearing a white baseball cap from his organisation M10 Esports, the former German national football player sits in a gaming chair within his own four walls in London and looks concentrated on the screen. Last Sunday, the professional footballer indulged in his passion for Fortnite – and even for a good cause.

In his stream, Mesut Özil has teamed up with the players of his organization M10 Esports, which was founded in October 2018. The four-man squad was completed by Özil’s Arsenal teammate Sead Kolašinac and DFB international Julian Draxler.

Mesut Özil will donate the proceeds from the stream to the children’s charity “BigShoe”. In addition, Özil and Co., who achieved several top placings in their live broadcast, also donated money from their own pockets to the good cause.

Özil: “At home it’s like in jail”
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, which has brought professional football to a standstill throughout Europe, the 2014 world champion, like many others, will have to take a compulsory break of several weeks. The star of Arsenal London is currently under quarantine because his coach Mikel Arteta has fallen ill with COVID-19.

“It’s like prison at home,” Özil says in his stream. But despite the quarantine, the 31-year-old showed a lot of joy in his two-and-a-half hour fortnite session. Almost 3,000 spectators watched the star live.

“Football is not important right now,” Özil already wrote on Twitter last Friday. Everyone’s health has priority, he said. He also thanked the health system: “You will be under a lot of pressure in the coming weeks and deserve respect and gratitude.
