On 03 August 2021, “The Ramp” was released, a minimalist skater game that you can get for less than 5 euros. On Steam, the game received great popularity shortly after its release: over 98 percent positive reviews within the first week.
You control your skater from a bird’s eye view through various half-pipes, pools and ramps – without any stress, time pressure or other missions.
The features of the game are also kept very minimalistic:
On the plus side:
– flow galore
– rewarding & unique skateboarding gameplay
– easy to learn, hard to master
What you shouldn’t expect
– no unlockable stuff
– no points, no missions
– no guns, explosions or helicopters
The developer takes his release with humour. He points out that it’s a pretty small game and maybe not even that, but more of a digital toy.
He himself says about The Ramp:
The Ramp captures the unparalleled feeling of real vert skateboarding and that’s pretty much it. There’s a whole lot of stuff that doesn’t exist in this game. What there is here are the 15 minutes of flow that make a boring day a little better, and for the price of a medium cinnamon pistachio latte macchiato To Go.
