Twitch has announced some changes after TwitchDoBetter while cracking down on gambling streams – specifically the referral codes for external sites.

After racist messages led to the hashtag “TwitchDoBetter” last weekend, the streaming platform announced several changes. Twitch wrote via Twitter on Wednesday to protect users from issues such as racism and targeted harassment. However, the gambling streams are also increasingly in the focus, through which Jens “Knossi” Knossalla, among others, came under criticism.

“We were able to identify a vulnerability in our proactive filters and have rolled out an update to close this gap and better detect hate speech in chat,” reads Twitch’s statement, which continues, among other things, herewith: “We will be rolling out improvements to channel-level ban evasion detection and account verification later this year. ”

Aside from responding to the damaging chat bots, Twitch has also released a Creator Update. In it, the platform addresses gambling streams, associated referral codes and certain links that lead to gambling websites.

With these updates, Twitch wants to show that it is willing and able to listen to the community and will crack down if something goes wrong on the site. “Our work is never done and your input is essential as we try to build a safer Twitch,” the platform’s extended statement reads. “We’ll be reaching out to community members to learn more about their experiences and encourage them to share feedback.”

Because of these restrictions on Twitch, the lucrative gambling sector is facing a major hurdle. This is because the streamers who link to casinos are earning from the business of the providers. How much gambling content will lose size on the streaming platform as a result is difficult to predict. The fact is that Twitch is taking a shot at content that is both addictive and harmful to minors and is issuing rules against the dissemination of gambling.
