We collect opinions from players who are currently trying out the closed beta of the remaster. It becomes clear that some urgent wishes still remain unfulfilled.

One thing right away: Most players are satisfied with the closed beta of Diablo 2: Resurrected. So the signs for a successful release on 23 September 2021 are not bad. But there are obviously still some things to criticise – hopefully the developers will be able to respond to the most important fan wishes in time. The Blizzard scandal is also still an important topic in the community.

This is what the players praise

  • The graphics look much better and apparently most players really like them.
  • The gameplay is said to be – unsurprisingly – still fantastic.
  • The controller support seems to work very well for the most part. Much praise is given to the precise controls in the battles.
  • Basically the PC version gets a lot of praise, on the consoles the picture looks a bit different – read more about that in the next section.
  • Many players are happy that the switch between remaster and original graphics can be made at any time. “Pure nostalgia” as some describe it.

This is what players criticise about the beta

  • Some players find the delay between attack and damage effect annoying. They complain that it takes too long for an attack to cause damage to the opponent. This sometimes feels like mini lags.
  • At the screen setting 21:9 (Ultrawide) black bars appear at the side edges. This was not the case in the alpha.
  • Although the graphics have been significantly improved, some players are bothered by the fact that the remaster is supposed to be less bloody. This could be because the blood is a much darker colour than in the original and therefore visually disappears on some surfaces. These Reddit threads show comparisons:

In the North Okanagan, BC the smoke from wildfires has gotten so bad it has blocked the sun leaving the sky blood red : interestingasfuck (reddit.com)

  • There is said to be a possible technical problem with trading, as reported by a Reddit user. If the counterpart aborts the process in the middle of the trade, then the item lands on the floor. Theoretically, it could be stolen that way
  • On consoles, the lobby system is particularly criticised. Players cannot create a lobby with their own name – but many use this function in the original game to make it clear whether their game is about trading, PvP or loot runs. On the PC, this is still possible.

Sexism scandal at Blizzard makes waves

And there is another issue that is often raised: the lawsuit against Activision Blizzard for discrimination, sexism and abuse. We have summarised the serious accusations made by the Californian state for you.

Many Diablo fans now no longer want to support the studio after the revelations. Especially on Twitter, many users post this comment (in this example under a announcement by Polygon):

“Thank you, Polygon, for tweeting this promotion for Activision-Blizzard products. And it’s especially great that the article doesn’t even mention in a footnote the ongoing, serious allegations of sexual harassment and worker abuse. I love this on behalf of all of us. ”

The closed beta of Diablo 2: Resurrected is currently only open to pre-orderers and winners of Twitch keys. An open beta weekend for everyone will then take place on 20 August.
