During a preview event, Respawn has unveiled the extensive new features for Season 12 – “Disobedience” of their multiplayer title Apex Legends, which should satisfy newcomers and veterans alike.

When do we start? Apex Legends Season 12 will kick off on February 8, 2022.

Sabotaged Olympus: The main focus of Season 12 is the extensive changes to the map Olympus. This has been heavily “reworked” in many places by the new legend Mad Maggie herself (more info on her below).

In her blind fury of destruction, Maggie causes a lot of chaos by teleporting objects and buildings across the city. This means that you suddenly have to find your way around the supposedly familiar map in a completely new way – including new passages, shortcuts and secret paths.

New game mode “Control”: A new, time-limited mode also finds its way into the game with Season 12. It is reminiscent of the Titanfall 2 mode Hardpoint, which is very popular with fans, and will be available for 3 weeks – i.e. until 1 March 2022.

Here, two teams of 9 fight for certain points on the map that can be brought under control. As a result, points constantly flow into the team account. The first team to accumulate a total of 1250 points wins the round. Every now and then, a zone on the map is marked as particularly lucrative and a countdown is started. The team that controls this zone after the timer expires can look forward to a big points bonus.

If you bite the dust in the fight for the control points, that’s no problem. You can always respawn and even change your equipment. This should encourage players to try out new loadouts in order to work out their own strategies.

New Legend: Do you know Margaret Köhere? No? Then you’ll soon know her when you play Apex Legends, under her much better-known name Mad Maggie. She’s now getting in on the action and can dish out a lot of power with her abilities. You can see more of Mad Maggie in a cinematic trailer created especially for her.

Balancing changes: Don’t expect the entire game balance to be changed. However, the developers emphasise that some weapons have been upgraded with a few new tweaks to make them more attractive again for the players’ loadouts.

3rd Birthday Celebrations
: For three weeks from the start of Season 12, you’ll be able to dust off some rewards that you already receive for logging into the game. These include playable characters along with several skins. In week 1 you get Octane, in week 2 you get Wattson and in the last week you get Valkyrie.

If you’re thinking about playing the game again (or for the first time), we recommend you read our latest review. Because in the meantime, Apex Legends is a completely different game than it was at release.
